"What's It Like Here In the Winter?"

For all the summer tourists who over the years have asked this question, and to anyone else who might still be wondering, here is my answer. This was my trip from the farm to Northport on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, the day of our first blizzard of the season in northern Michigan.

We made it!

The P.S. to this story is that we got stuck halfway up the drive on our way back in. Now, who knows what tomorrow will bring, other than more snow, more snowing, more drifting!

You mean on the road? There were a few other vehicles--I just didn't get them in my pictures.

As we were leaving the house, David said through gritted teeth (no, just kidding!), "Barb's Bakery better be open!" I was sure it would be. It wasn't! But Brew North, the new coffee shop across the street from Dog Ears Books, was open, as was the fitness center, ceramic shop, hardware store, Dolls and More, Tom's Market, Pennington Collection, post office and bank. Library doesn't open until 3:30 on Wednesday, and by that time we were back home--well, stuck in our driveway in a monster drift--so I didn't find out if they opened yesterday or not. And we may not get out today....
