Peaceful Small-Town Sunday

Sunday morning in Northport is slow-paced and leisurely. David and I took time for breakfast at the Eat Spot, and I still had time afterward to stroll around town with Sarah, taking in the quiet sights before opening the bookstore and gallery for the day. A nice day it was, too. Good business, pleasant visitors, but a few opportunities to read a few pages of Turgenev's Fathers and Sons, too.

That is amazing, because today was anything but slow-paced, relaxed, peaceful over here across the Bay. It was frenetic and I am still recovering from the relentless hordes. I am not complaining, mind you, as the relentless hordes generate a good deal of income for Antrim County, but ohmygoodness it is hard to keep up with the pace of things. Miss Sadie is grumpy and the Cowboy stole my supper shortly after my arrival home at 9:30 tonight, so both are banished to the Dog Room while I sulk at my laptop.

Relentless hordes on Sunday morning? Was there a yacht race? Pancake breakfast? Flea market? Along with families out for Sunday drives and strolls along the sidewalks, we had miles of motorcycles through Northport on Sunday afternoon. It was really something to see them parked along Waukazoo Street, all at an angle, parallel to one another, each one shining. Quite beautiful. When they all started to vroom-vroom-vroom, though, we had to close the door for a few minutes so as not to be suffocated by fumes.
