Happy (Book) Faces

I needed an upbeat topic to ward off the blues, and in the mail arrived these beautiful, surprising little books by David Greenwald, who did a reading last summer at Dog Ears Books from his very different adult novels. David's son collaborated with him on the illustrations for these beginning readers' titles, and the illustrations are bright and lively. Here are a few samples from the three books:

If there is a beginning reader in your family, come check these books out in person. You will no doubt want to buy one, at least, to take home.

Those are wonderful illustrations. They cheered me up--hope they did the same for you. The wind, the wind . . . I watched it tear across the Bay last evening and hoped I'd get home before it spit snow at me. No such luck. By the time I got to Manitou there were snow devils swirling all around. April Fool! shrieked Mama Nature. I will not tell you what I shrieked back. But we didn't lose power or traction, so that's all right then.

Gerry, I'm so glad you like the illustrations, too. I love them!

I thought this weekend's snow would be flurries in the air, melting on the ground. Not so! Winter reprise! Harsh! But you're right -- no power loss. It's fine. Spring is coming.
