We Are Getting Completely Spoiled

A few clouds in the morning sky? It wasn't long before they parted and vanished, leaving clear blue from horizon to horizon.

Yes, another gorgeous morning here Up North! They just keep coming, one right after another.

No one is complaining. I’m certainly not! Tomorrow is the Fall Festival day, which means chiefly to me (though there are also specials at village eateries, and I should not slight the Oompah Band, which will begin their free outdoor concert at 2 o’clock, bless their hearts!) that the horses are coming to Northport again!

On my camera’s internal memory—not on the removable memory chip—are a couple of pictures from October 2009 of the team pulling the beautiful, shiny black, fall-decorated wagonette full of happy people through the village of Northport. I wanted to put at least one of those photographs on the blog today, and I did find the cable that connects (or would connect) the camera directly to the laptop. But—the instructions with the cable say that certain software must first be installed, and I couldn’t find the software.

So, no horse pictures today. Only fall sunshine and color. You’ll have to come to town tomorrow to see the horses for yourself—or wait and hope I get some good pictures of them this year on the removable chip. That’s my plan.

Thanks, Kathy. And I know that you know what these camera issues are like, too.

P.S. It's now Saturday morning, a gorgeous, sunny morning, and there is lots more going on today than I've indicated so far. There is HAUNTED LIGHTHOUSE this weekend! David Chrobak is having a big yard sale on Mill Street at the Pot of Gold. The Northport Area Heritage Association will be set up (by the old Woody's, I think) to sell Woody's memorabilia. Sally's sale at Dolls and More is her 10th anniversary sale, so stop in there and congratulate her while you shop. And I see that right next to the library Rolland Charpentier will be setting up his lovely pottery--beautiful and reasonably priced. Of course, for me, the main event is the horses....

When I read of an Oompa Band, I think of a gaggle of ruddy dwarves singing cautionary songs about what happens to children who don't obey rules on candy factory tours.

Thanks, dmarks, for putting that song in my head. No doubt it will be lodged there all day now--except when the clip-clop of horses' hooves sends me running to the door in excitement.

I am looking forward to the horses.

Louan says Dean and Cindy Robb donated a stay at their Suttons Bay place to the Silent Auction on Sunday, and the purchaser donated it right back to Louan to use for a retreat. There might be a gaggle of uppity wimmin up there one day soon, all of us deeply hungry for excellent treats and good literature.

I believe a short trip from SB up to NP will be in order. Ya think?

[p.s. d, what were you thinking??? Giving old ladies an earworm! Shame on you!!']

Gerry, it's almost 5 p.m. as I type these words, and I took many, many pictures of the horses. Pictures of the band, too. A couple of dog pictures. Some fall color. It was a glorious day.

What FABULOUS news that you will come to Leelanau County for a women's retreat! Give me a heads-up b y e-mail a day or two ahead of time, will you? I look forward to the visit!

I believe it can be arranged. Whenever I manage to creep over there in my disreputable car I will give you fair warning.

I am really, really looking forward to the horses.

We had company, Gerry, and who can stay indoors for long in weather like this on her DAY OFF (Sunday)? But I'm getting around to the horses now....
