Next is the Michigan Notable Books award list for 2012, which includes several
authors who have visited Dog Ears Books. Which ones? Take a look and see!
Another
award to a Northport author came from the Independent Publishers (IPPY) to John
Mitchell, Silver Medal winner in the category “Great Lakes – Best Regional
Nonfiction,” for Grand
Traverse, the Civil War Era. See complete list of winners here.
You’ve
all heard by now of the death of Maurice Sendak. This is my favorite tribute to him, of the many that are flying around.
Finally, here’s a video that’s worth taking the time to watch,
both for the singer’s beautiful voice and for her original lyrics. Laughter
guaranteed.
*This is a correction from my original statement identifying the poet's home as Suttons Bay. She teaches at Northwestern Michigan College (NMC) in Traverse City and lives there.

Michigan Notable Books list! Love it. I did not know about Mr. Sendak, so sorry to hear about that, but what a nice article. And aren't we lucky that we can always go where the wild things are.
I was going to write that I must be the only person in America who had not heard of the death of Maurice Sendak and then here's Dawn, making me think we must have been living in the same cave.
Thank you for the link to the excellent tribute.
I don't follow all the news but usually have the latest book news. It comes into my cave via a daily e-mailed newsletter, "Shelf Awareness."
