We couldn’t resist. Not that there isn’t plenty of color between our house and Northport, There's plenty in my own yard and along the driveway and within walking distance of the house.
But in October I am always greedy for more. Monochromatic months lie ahead of us, you know, and now is the time to gorge on color. So after closing my bookstore at 5 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, David and Sarah and I took a long, meandering path that led eventually to Glen Arbor, where we stopped for picnic supplies before turning back northward to stop at Good Harbor beach for our al fresco supper.
What a day! Spectacular! Every modest little corner a blaze of bright hues! This is Fat Tuesday for the Seasonal Soul facing a long winter fast.

It was a peak weekend in every way, Kathy. And yes, I know what comes next. Thanks to the new Jerry Dennis book, I'm actually looking forward to that season, too.
Wow! What wonderful color! There's some color here in CA, some of their maple trees are beginning. But mostly it's brown and gold fields and green trees; still summer here.
Dawn, your comparison with California makes me wonder how other places look right now. What kind of fall color is going on in Cincinnati, for instance, and how does the Jardin du Luxembourg look in Paris this week? (I would have spelled that in English but couldn't remember our spelling of the last syllable!)

Gorgeous colors made all the more gorgeous by your beautiful photos. Your foliage makes our Berkshire foliage pale by comparison -- in both senses of the word! Too much rain and wind this summer is to blame.

Helen, I thought the fall tree photos on your blog looked beautiful--and right outside your shop, too! But fall color, like winter snow accumulation, varies from year to year. Our color last year was disappointing. This year we hit the jackpot.
