Sarah would have enjoyed running on the beach even without the presence of Digby, her dog park friend of last year, but playing with him again made the morning extra-special.

Of course they do! And they have emotions. Human beings not blinded by the idea of scientific objectivity have always known this. And "joy" is the right word, too, Gerry, for happy dogs at play.
