Here's information from the front of her anthology, STORYTELLER: "Leslie Marmon Silko is the author of the novels CEREMONY, almana of the dead, and GARDENS IN THE DUNES. She has also written two works of autobiography, SACRED WATER and THE TURQUOISE LEDGE; a collection of essays, YELLOW WOMAN AND A BEAUTY OF TH SPIRIT; and a book of verse, LAGUNA WOMAN. The recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship and an NEA fellowship, Silko lives in Tucson, Arizona, on the boundary of Saguaro National Park West."P. J. Then I saw that the author was a man.......I hate to admit it (no, I don't) but I never read books by a male. I used to belong to a book group at the local library, and when I admitted this was the case, the other members laughed. As a taunt, they chose William Trevor for our next month's author. Hoping to prove myself wrong, I read the book and liked it. Still, it turned out that he was a voice in the wilderness as far as I was concerned. I swear I can tell by the first paragraph of any book if the author is male or female. What I sense with male authors is a sense of detachment. They describe. They seem to be telling a story rather than living it....perhaps that is why they make better non-fiction writers. I have a male friend, a professor, who laughs at me, but then, he only reads male authors. His exception is Joyce Carol Oats, who is appropriately the only female author I find too remote for my taste.

So I was sorry I won't be able to enjoy this book, even though it is reportedly one of the best. ..............and don't get me started on male authors who try to invent female characters :-). Although I have to admit I loved Geek Love.Cheri Waltonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07527610393416277898noreply@blogger.com
