Thanks for stopping by, Kathy.P. J. Hadn't really framed them in the same way.

But this paragraph stands out (I am still nodding in complete agreement):

Whatever you thought of the book (if you read it), in my opinion the cross-racial, cross-gender, cross-generational, etc. conversation is much more riveting. We do need to talk to each other, to people who have had different experiences from ours, to people whose opinions do not agree with ours. Only if we can stay in the conversation, even when tempers flare, voices rise and tears start up--we can’t control others and can’t always control ourselves--is there hope for our country and for our world. I believe that.Kathyhttp://upwoods.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4130421352415377273.post-48795353876424158232011-02-25T08:20:53.388-08:002011-02-25T08:20:53.388-08:00Me, too, Gerry. I'm really glad not to have missed discussions, though. both here at the bookstore (substituting for library this month) and online.P. J. I have read many reviews and a lot of the lengthy debate, and the net result is that there are a lot of other books I'll pick up instead.

None of us has time to read everything in the world. The reason I read reviews is to help with the winnowing process. This particular book has been winnowed out of my personal Must Read list.Gerryhttp://torchlakeviews.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
